In 2022, I was introduced to Sittha Viruthi Yoga by my chithi and periyamma, who were already practicing. Initially, I was skeptical and quite resistant to attending the Narkarma Viruthi class. I remember my periyamma gently telling me, “Don’t overthink this. Just come for one class. Even if nothing else, you will learn something new. It’s an interesting class.”
Despite her reassurance, I hesitated. At that point in my life, I had a pattern—I struggled with consistency and rarely followed through on practices I was taught. I questioned myself: What is the point of sitting through a full-day class if I’m not going to practice what’s taught?
Looking back, I can confidently say that this was one of the most sensible and transformative decisions of my life.
That single class opened doors to answers I had been searching for since childhood. Questions that had quietly lived within me for years
Why me?
Why this suffering?
Why do I face repeated difficulties while someone next to me seems to glide through life effortlessly?
The class didn’t dismiss these questions—it met them with depth, logic, and compassion. It addressed my whys, hows, and what ifs in a way that finally made sense to me. That day marked the beginning of my current version of self.
Over the years, I realized how much emotional, mental, and karmic baggage we unknowingly carry. These teachings helped me identify that weight and, more importantly, learn how to unburden myself—not forcefully, but gently and consciously.
As someone who once struggled with consistency, the practices taught me something invaluable: the power of sustained, honest effort. Not perfection—just commitment. And that alone has brought profound shifts in my life.
In this three-year journey, a few concepts—understood in their true essence—have stayed especially close to my heart:
Earlier, these were just words I had memorized in school—dictionary definitions without lived meaning. Through Sittha Viruthi Yoga, I truly understood them. This understanding gave me a sense of inner freedom—freedom from confusion, from inner conflict, and from constant resistance. It helped me find peace within myself and feel more aligned with nature, life, and existence as a whole.
There are many paths and schools of thought that guide one’s inner journey. What sets Sittha Viruthi Yoga apart for me is the kindness, compassion, and grounded approach with which it guides that journey. There is no force—only awareness. No fear—only understanding.
This journey has not changed who I am—it has helped me return to myself, lighter, clearer, and more at peace.
